New Early Learning Center
With a degree in Child Development and mom to a son with autism, I have been a supporter of early childhood education and early intervention throughout my adult life. We know that most brain development happens in early childhood, and research has proven that investing in high-quality early childhood education has the best outcomes for students. This fall, we will open our new Early Learning Center, which will bring our programs together.

Strategic Plan
The board guided the development of a new strategic plan in 2023. I look forward to seeing this vision implemented in our schools. The five goals of the strategic plan are Future Ready Instruction, Inclusive Environment, Quality Workforce, Family Partnerships, and Equitable Resources.

Adequate Funding
The board has actively advocated for school funding at the local, state, and national levels. School funding has not kept up with inflationary costs. In addition to the inflationary gap, our cross-subsidy for unfunded mandates exceeds $ 10 million. Due to these funding shortfalls, we are continually compelled to make difficult, yet necessary, budget reductions. I have also volunteered on Referendums. I will continue to advocate for funding for our students and staff.

Superintendent Search
One of the most important roles of a school board is the hiring of a superintendent. I was part of the board that went through a superintendent selection process. We worked with MSBA to develop a new process that would enable the board to have a superintendent in place by July 2021. The result of that was the hiring of Dr. Eric Melbye, our current superintendent.

Beyond Bloomington Public Schools
I served on the Autism Society of Minnesota Board of Directors for 12 years. During that time, I worked to increase Special Education funding, limit the use of seclusion and restraint in Minnesota schools, improve access to early intervention, and develop an Autism Spectrum Disorders Teacher License. I presented AuSM's Discovery Series at various locations around the state. I presented on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and coordinated a grant that was a collaboration with AuSM and our district.
